Lawyer Ramesh on Telangana forest panel

The Telangana government has named Mr Ramesh B. Vishwanathula, a Hyderabad-based senior advocate, to a seven-member committee set up to study and recommend suitable amendments to the Telangana Wood-Based Industries (Regulation) Rules, 2016.

Ramesh specialises in environment and forests, science and technology matters and represents the Federation of Telangana Timber Merchants, Saw Millers & Allied Industries, in high courts and the Supreme Court. He has also written for WoodNews.

As an expert member (Law), he is expected to look into the relocation of sawmills and wood depots away from Reserve Forests and urban/ municipal areas; and identify illegal manufacturers of plywood, MDF and veneer in the state.

The committee has also been tasked with identifying mechanisms for effective control of wood-based industries with a view to enhancing protection of forest resources. Ramesh can be reached at
