Wood fibres weave new textile yarn

Finland-based Woodspin Oy is the exclusive producer and distributor of wood-based Spinnova fibre-to-apparel brand and their supply chain partners. Woodspin has built a €22-million demonstration facility and commercial production unit in Jyväskylä, Finland.

Spinnova has developed a breakthrough patented technology for making textile fibre from wood pulp or waste (leather, textile or agricultural cropping) without harmful chemicals or dissolving. The technology transforms the way textiles are manufactured globally.

Spinnova’s technology creates no side streams in the fibre production process, and its fibre has minimal CO2 emissions and water use, as well as being bio-degradable and recyclable.

Spinnova technology uses a mechanical process which gives the fibre the look and feel of a natural cellulosic fibre such as cotton.

Recently Spinnova bought all Woodspin and Suzano Finland shares from Brazil’s Suzano SA for a nominal €2! This makes Spinnova the sole producer and distributor of products from the Woodspin plant, as well as ownership of the raw material supplied from Suzano Finland for manufacturing wood-based Spinnova fibre.

Woodspin’s revenue for the first six months of 2025 was €100,000, compared to €362,000 for the same period of 2024.
