Italy-based SCM Group, a global leader in wood processing technologies, recently hosted ‘Timber Construction Days’ at its headquarters in Tuscany, from March 13 to 15.
The event attracted over 300 visitors from various countries, including leading companies, technology partners, and industry experts. Attendees had the opportunity to explore SCM’s latest innovations in timber construction technology.
One of the highlights was the introduction of the Oikos XS 650 CNC machining centre, designed to enhance productivity and flexibility in processing beams with cross-sections of up to 650x310 mm.
The event also showcased the Beam&Wall software, developed on the new CAD/CAM Maestro Lab, improving machine performance and user experience. Additionally, the latest version of the IoT platform, Maestro Connect, was presented, offering enhanced monitoring of machine performance and productivity.
New factory
The modernised industrial plant, now 50% larger with an additional 3,000 square metres of production space totalling 10,000 square metres, was officially inaugurated during the open house. This expansion aims to increase production capacity and optimise internal logistics, promoting competitiveness and technological innovation.
Tommaso Martini, Business Unit Manager for CNC Machining Centres and Systems for Timber Construction, stated: “We started out with the production needs linked to the construction of timber buildings using mass timber and moved towards promoting a new concept of ‘smart timber’.”
The event also featured guided tours of the factories, demonstrations of various models such as Oikos XS 450, Oikos X, Oikos XL and Area X, and presentations on SCM’s technologies for machining cross-laminated timber panels, including sanding and double-end profiling machines.
Collaborations with technological partners like Randek, Oertli, Leitz, CADwork, HsbCAD, Sema and Innorenew were highlighted, emphasizing SCM’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in timber construction.
