The new VTH 600-1050 BT from Vecoplan is the first biomass chipper with a HiTorc drive. It offers users energy savings of up to 40%.
Vecoplan AG, a global manufacturer of machinery and systems for processing primary and secondary raw materials, has launched a major innovation in the wood industry: the VTH 600-1050 BT, the first biomass chipper powered by the fully electric HiTorc drive.
Known for its extensive recycling technology portfolio and presence across Europe and North America, Vecoplan supports industries from wood and biomass to plastics and commercial waste.
With this latest launch, the company introduces a chipper that combines high throughput, ultra-low energy consumption, and intelligent digital control, offering sawmills, panel manufacturers, and biomass plants a performance-optimized, low-maintenance solution.
Direct drive
The HiTorc drive eliminates mechanical transmission elements such as belts, couplings and gearboxes. Torque is delivered directly to the rotor shaft, enabling immediate response, rapid startup, and precise control.
Compared to conventional systems, it delivers up to 40% energy savings, full torque from standstill in three seconds, and smooth handling of difficult materials. An integrated frequency converter ensures torque is always optimally applied, making the drive especially efficient under partial loads and during idling, where it consumes just 10% of the energy required by similar asynchronous motors.
Its compact, foundation-free design makes installation more space- and cost-efficient. From processing chipboard offcuts and sawmill waste to preparing feedstock for biomass and pellet plants, the VTH 600-1050 BT adapts seamlessly across applications.
Smart control
Vecoplan complements this mechanical innovation with the Vecoplan Smart Center (VSC), a two-part digital platform that merges operational control with remote diagnostics. VSC.control offers an intuitive interface for machine management, while VSC.connect enables online commissioning, KPI monitoring, and remote troubleshooting.
Operators benefit from reduced downtime, faster fault response, and smarter maintenance planning. The VSC also features vibration-based foreign object detection and automatic shutdown/restart mechanisms, ensuring operational safety and reliability even in challenging environments.
In overload situations, the rotor stops immediately and restarts effortlessly, aided by the intelligent interplay of motor torque and rotor momentum.
By removing traditional wear components like belts and gearboxes, the HiTorc system minimizes mechanical failures and simplifies upkeep. This increases system availability and drastically cuts maintenance costs. The chipper continues to run smoothly even under demanding conditions, offering consistent uptime and durability.
This new chipper arrives at a critical time, as energy costs rise and sustainability regulations tighten. With the VTH 600-1050 BT, Vecoplan sets a new standard in the wood processing industry—mechanically robust, digitally intelligent, and future-ready.
