Paged Furniture reclaims the past, shapes the future

With over 140 years of woodworking heritage, Paged Furniture’s reputation is founded on its expertise in shaping wood with grace and precision.

Paged Furniture, one of Europe’s oldest and most storied manufacturers, continues to defy the passage of time with two evocative new launches: Heritage and Nimm.

Presented at Salone del Mobile 2025, these collections mark a confident stride in design evolution, seamlessly weaving the legacy of 19th-century bentwood mastery with contemporary sensibilities and production techniques.

With over 140 years of woodworking heritage, Paged’s reputation is founded on its expertise in shaping wood with grace and precision. Long associated with the Thonet tradition, the Polish brand has steadily transformed into a design-forward label, embracing both artisanal craftsmanship and technical innovation.

Its collaborations with leading designers like Maja Ganszyniec and Maciej Karpiak reflect a clear intention: to ground the future of furniture design in a deep, deliberate conversation with the past.

Design re-imagined

The Heritage 621 collection, conceived by Maja, inaugurates an ambitious archival reinterpretation programme by Paged, beginning with a re-edition of the B-621, a dining chair and low-arm chair model first created by Polish modernist Marian Sigmund in the 1950s.

Though the original was widely exported across Western Europe, it remained relatively obscure within Poland itself. In a nuanced act of design archaeology, Maja breathes new life into the model, drawing from fragmented archives and fading memories.

This re-imagining is not simply a faithful replica. Updated to reflect contemporary ergonomics and ecological priorities, the new version accommodates modern physiques and preferences while offering sustainability-conscious options such as an unupholstered base and reduced foam usage. The result is a product that bridges eras – modern in use, historic in soul.

Heritage is envisioned not as a standalone revival, but as the first in a new family of re-editions. Anchored by archival depth and unified aesthetics, these pieces will eventually sit alongside Paged’s iconic Thonets and contemporary originals, forming a curated ecosystem of design continuity.

Tactile sensibility

Complementing the reverence of Heritage is Nimm, a versatile new seating line by Maciej Karpiak that leans into functionality without sacrificing refinement. Comprising two chair types and two barstool variants, Nimm is defined by its practical proportions, soft contours, and stackable design – a rarity for armchairs in this category.

Each piece is available in a variety of finishes, with or without upholstery or armrests, making it adaptable to a range of commercial and domestic contexts. Maciej, renowned for his work with bio-composites, brings a restrained, tactile sensibility to this project.

With Nimm, he explores the intersection of traditional bentwood techniques and advanced CNC machining, achieving a hybrid design that honours material intelligence.

The backrest and seat are bent in the time-tested Paged tradition, while other components are machined for consistency, affordability and repeatability, reflecting an honest balance between handcraft and production logic.

Maciej’s intuitive respect for material is matched by the makers at Paged. “There’s no robot that can replicate what these craftsmen do with wood,” he notes, framing the design process as a dialogue between human expertise and modern tooling.

Generational knowledge

Nimm, then, is not just a minimalist object – it is the outcome of an intelligent production ecosystem rooted in generational knowledge.

Whether it’s the design sleuthing of Maja or the rational poise of Maciej, both collections underline Paged Furniture’s evolving identity, one that resists flashiness in favour of assured precision.

Heritage revives lost narratives of Polish design with dignity and relevance, while Nimm provides architects and designers with smart, scalable solutions for contemporary interiors.

Paged’s long-standing commitment to sustainability is evident throughout both collections, from FSC-certified wood to low-emission adhesives and water-based finishes. And through its R&D arm, Paged LabTech, the brand continues to explore new ways of marrying tradition with technological foresight.
